WE ARE FAMILY

Happy Monday, Beautifuls!

As I was watching James Cameron accept his award for Best Director, during the Golden Globes awards show, he said something that caught my ear and really summed up my feelings as of late. He said, “We are family now”. Well, I’ll take it a step further. We have always been family. We’re a global family whether we choose to acknowledge it or not. We are all connected. And in all honesty, I cannot recall a time (at least not in my lifetime) in which I have seen such a strong manifestation of this until now.

As sad and horrific as the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti is, I can’t help but feel some inner sunshine and marvel at the many people, organizations and nations pulling together to help our Haitian brothers and sisters. I don’t believe that there’s anywhere you can go where a person or business isn't putting forth some type of effort to help. My yoga instructor, Lisa Cohen, even put together a special class in which all proceeds went towards Haiti relief funds through Partners in Health. Grocery stores, retail businesses, faith-based organizations, radio stations, social clubs, kids and so many more. Seeing everyone reach out beyond themselves to touch people who are in desperate need and for the most part, they have never met and don't know, is truly encouraging and heartwarming.

Here. Let me show you what I see.

*article from The Hindustan Times**
Countries around the world are swinging behind a huge aid effort for quake-ravaged Haiti, with at least 30 nations having sent or readying help, a US official said on Friday.

Eight search-and-rescue teams were already on the ground in Port-au-Prince comprising about 260 personnel, who had joined the grim search for survivors among the ruins, State Department spokesman PJ Crowley said.

"Obviously this is still a very growing list, but our estimate is that at least 30 countries have meaningful assistance that has already reached Haiti or is en route," he said.

"So not only is the United States' commitment to Haiti growing, but also the international commitment as well."

Apart from a US team on the ground, there were also staff in place from Iceland, Spain, Chile, he said, adding they had helped free two people from the ruins.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon announced earlier that relief workers from China, the Dominican Republic, France and Venezuela had also joined the huge operation to help the Haitians devastated by Tuesday's 7.0 quake

Look at our mobile donations.

Donations made via mobile phones for Haiti Earthquake Relief have surpassed $16 million across all the short codes managed by the Mobile Giving Foundation (MGF) a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping other non-profits raise funds through mobile.

Here are a couple of links that lists other nations and people who are reaching out to help and assist.

It really gives my heart some comfort and hope to see so many nations and people pulling together to help another in a time of great tragedy. The world acting as the global family that it is is so beautiful. We truly are our brother's keeper.

MORE HELP FOR HAITI

Because my thoughts are constantly with the country and people of Haiti and their family & loved ones in the U.S., I am honestly finding it difficult to focus on producing blog posts relevant to ChocolateOrchid . My heart aches just thinking, seeing, hearing or reading about it. My only comfort comes when I do whatever I can in my power (in my mind) to help them in some way.

And with that being said, I am choosing to list some more resources you can work with to help bring relief, rescue and some sort of comfort to Haiti.

CARE plans to start food distribution using stocks of high-protein biscuits from its warehouses in Haiti. CARE is coordinating with other U.N. agencies and aid organizations to assess damage and on-the-ground needs.

NETHOPE Internet connectivity is one of the single most pressing problems for our member agencies delivering relief to the millions affected in Haiti. Without connectivity, member agencies cannot coordinate delivery of food, water, healthcare, and information.

NetHope is en route to providing Internet connectivity via VSAT / Wimax link. This connection will be hosted by WorldVision, and shared by all our members.

The operation will cost $25,000, and we need your help to raise these funds.
