ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

Hola Beautiful Ones!

I decided to drop a hair post only because its been ages and felt like I needed to just put an update out there. As you will see, from the following pictures, I have been up to absolutely nothing when it comes to my hair. In between race training, a cold and just sheer laziness; my hair has been in a twist-out for almost 2 weeks. I keep meaning (and needing) to wash it but the suckey cold drained that outta me. I'm feel much better now. My sense of smell is still a bit faint but I can tell I'm improving. Hopefully, I'll syke myself up enough to run some water thru it no later than tomorrow.

So here goes, if you've been wondering:

I'm trying my best to conjure up some type of "I'm good" look. Although my brows are in need of attending and my poor nose bears the marks of way too much blowing, I can thankfully breathe through it now.

I've done nothing with my hair, outside of moisturizing on an mostly daily basis.

Oh! Let me start at the beginning. I wash/deep conditioned and then plaited (braided) it up to allow it to mostly dry while stretching. Then I twisted it up with Uncle Funky's Daughter's Curly Magic. This product was nice. Just kind of shrunk it back some because it is a curl enhancing gel. I'm okay with that though. Trying to use up the products I have before making another purchase. I'm sure I'll go back to using Jane Carter Twist & Lock, Darcy's Botanicals Vanilla Madigascar styling creme or something like it.

I keep wanting to try other brands. I'm sure it's out of boredom. Which makes me wonder if I'll make it through this summer without bc'ing (big chopping) again. Lol. I know its coming. I'm trying to wait til summer 2012 but I don't know. On top of which, I really want to color my hair. And I can't do it at this time because of all the henna I've applied to it.

So back to what I've been moisturizing with. I've pretty much been sticking to Jane Carter's Revitalizing conditioner. I either top that with Bee Mine's Deja's Hair Milk or Essential Balms Organic Shea butter. And of course, seal it with an oil like Essential Balms Indian Hemp Head to Toe Balm. Lovin' the Essential Balms products.  Will work on some reviews on the new products that I've tried.

Well, that's all for know, Lovelies. Not sure when I'll do another hair post but I will definitely post on any changes I may make.

Tootles!

WOO-HOO TO GREAT HAIR DAYS!!!

Hi Gorgeous Ones!

I know it’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything on hair. I’ve honestly gotten a bit bored talking about it. Don’t get me wrong. I’m still lovin’ and feelin’ my chem-free locks of hair, I just don’t see myself devoting as much time or blog-space to talk about it. It's one of the things that I've been meditating on as far as where I will be taking this blog in the future. Besides, there are so many great hair blogs out there that you can go to for any given topic on hair matters. So just fyi, from here on out, my posts on hair will be sporadic.
And having said that, today’s post will be one of those sporadic picks. ;)
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Shelley Chapman’s Taste of Naturi event. So yummy. After a week, filled with sweaty work-outs and buns, I decided to try something different.
 Likey?.... I do.
I spritzed my hair with my own concoction of distilled water, essential oils, a lil' leave-in condish to the point where it was a bit damp. Then I applied a small amount of my fav leave-in, MOP leave-in conditioner from root to tip. Starting from the left side of my head, I horizontally parted my hair and then flat-twisted with Darcy's Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla styling creme. At the end of the 6 to 7 horizontal flat twists, I rolled 2 to 3 inches of my ends on red flexi-rods using Jane Carter Solution's Wrap and Roll.

I was pleasantly surprised when I took my hair down a couple of hours before the event. I was so happy with the outcome that I had to share these pics.

Please forgive my blackberry photos but I'm still waiting on the Universe to deliver my Nikon D60 to me. Just sayin'. Lol.

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE WORLD OF NATURAL HAIR BEAUTY & HEALTH SHOW

This past weekend, the World of Natural Beauty & Health Show went down in the "A". I ended up going on Saturday and only stayed for a couple of hours.  I didn't take any photos this year but will attempt to paint a picture in lieu of.

First off, let me say that I highly recommend going to these types of events for anyone new to wearing their hair chem-free, transitioning to all-natural, or experiencing any negative reactions from their choice to do so. Being surrounded by companies that cater to you and seeing so many beautiful heads of hair will give you an instant boost in hair ego.

Here's a short view of my take:

PROS:
  • It was great seeing so many small business's. Loved that.
  • Jane Carter Solution deals of 5 full-sized products for $20 or a full-sized product for $5 each was sweet. Yay Jane!! She knows how to do business. Now this is how you atract, build & solidify your customer base. I need others to take note. And yes, a rant is coming.
  • Fairly cheap admission of $10.
  • Seeing Darcy's Botanicals there was great! Yay Lysandra!! Her products were also slightly discounted.

CONS:
  • Folks were extra-stingy with the samples. WTH?!! I really wanted to try some products there. I mean, I really did. From the usual vendors to the new vendors, I wanted to check out some lines that I've never tried before, but not at full price. Let me tell you, and maybe this was because I got there early, no one was giving out. In the two hours that I was there, I got two, no, three samples. One came in an orange gift bag filled with the usual adverts. And when I say "One", I mean absolutely one item. The other was a couple of things from the presenters of the show, Taliah Waajid. Anybody else?...*crickets* Now, at 2 1/2 years of being a natural-head, I am not going to spend $15, $20, $25 a pop on a product from a line that I've never tried in which there is no guarantee that it will work effectively on my hair. That's just not happenin' these days. I can't afford to make a purchase like that nor would I if I could. That's just how precious my dollars are to me. I'm not making an emotional decision that could result in disappointment, then anger from wasting money. That would be insane.  ** Mini-rant is now complete.**
What are your thoughts on this?....

Oh, and here are some vendors that I would've love to have seen:
Hairveda, Oyin Handmade, Qhemet Biologics, Karen's Body Beautiful, Afroveda, & Curl Junkie to name a few. I also would love to see more natural and holistic health vendors.

I ended up leaving with two purchases. One was Jane Carter Solution's "Hydrating Invigorating Shampoo" which is SLS-free and the other was Darcy's Botanicals "Pumpkin Seed Moisturizing Curl Conditioner".

And I cannot end this post without this highlight. As I walked around there were folks handing out flyers and advertisements. At one point, I looked at what was in my hand and saw a Target coupon for Miss Jessie's products... What for you ask?.. For a $1 off. *blank stare* I must say that I was slightly offended by this. I really wanted to find the woman who put it in my hand and give it right back to her. smh.
